Sarah Schmidt
Secretary/Treasurer of Board of Directors; President of Executive Committee; Member of the Board of Trustees
Sarah is the Founder of The BIG FIX Uganda.
Sarah is a retired lawyer whose legal career included representation of many animal rescue and advocacy organizations, teaching appellate advocacy and animal law, drafting legislation, and providing pro bono representation for vulnerable and marginalized people. Sarah, a lifelong animal activist, founded Central Valley Coalition for Animals in 2002, an IRS 501(c)(3), formed to develop cooperative projects with the fragmented animal welfare community in California's Central Valley. That work led to creation of The BIG FIX, a spay/neuter assistance program. In 2005, The BIG FIX began small projects in developing countries and in 2012, Sarah launched The BIG FIX Uganda, in response to the lack of veterinary services in the impoverished area of Northern Uganda following more than 20 years of conflict in the region.
